Best-known for her vocal ease and golden timbre, mezzo-soprano Meridian Prall is wholeheartedly dedicated to the advancement of classical music in the 21st century. Whether it be on stage or in the recital hall, Ms. Prall strives to communicate warmth into the hearts and souls of global audiences.
Meridian’s 2021-22 Season begins in Palm Beach, Florida where she will enjoy a residency with Palm Beach Opera as an Apprentice Artist, performing as the ‘Sorceress’ in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas as well as covering several roles throughout their season.
Ms. Prall enjoys a wonderful relationship with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, having been originally invited to join the Gerdine Young Artists Program in Summer 2020 before the global pandemic prevented the festival from taking place. Meridian was invited back to OTSL for their 2021 Summer Festival, where she covered ‘Janet Armstrong’ in Steven Mackey and Rinde Eckert’s Moon Tea as well as being featured in the Center Stage young artist showcase. Continuing her work with OTSL, Meridian will be portraying ‘Rosina’ in their film production of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville due to release in November 2021.
Ms. Prall graduated from the University of Michigan in 2020 having performed as Aunt Lou in William Grant Still’s Highway 1, U.S.A. under the direction of Louise Toppin. As a result of winning the graduate level Concerto Competition, Meridian performed the United States premiere of Verklärtes Jahr, a song cycle for mezzo-soprano and orchestra, with University of Michigan’s University Philharmonia Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Adrian Slywotzk. During her graduate studies, Meridian was a semifinalist in the Houston Grand Opera Eleanor McCollum Competition.
Ms. Prall participated as a young artist with Des Moines Metro Opera in the Summer of 2019 where she studied and performed scenes from Ambroise’s Hamlet, Die Zauberflöte, Madama Butterfly, Hänsel und Gretel, and Il viaggio a Reims.
Meridian loves long hiking adventures in the upper peninsula of Michigan, cooking and confectioning, passing on her musical knowledge to her voice students, and caring for her two cats at home.
