Palm Beach Opera Toasts to 2024 Season and Major Supporters at New York City’s Lotos Club

As part of celebrations for its upcoming season, Palm Beach Opera held a private dinner at The Lotos Club, one of the oldest literary clubs in the country, hosted by Palm Beach Opera supporters Julie and Robert Desnick.

Attended by over 30 Palm Beach Opera supporters, the evening began with a cocktail reception and passed hors d’oeuvres followed by a warm welcome from General & Artistic Director David Walker. Walker acknowledged the evening’s hosts, celebrated all in attendance and introduced PBO resident artists Cloe SanAntonio and Alexis Seminario, who performed an intimate recital accompanied by PBO vocal coach Shelby Rhoades on piano. Following the performance, guests enjoyed a gourmet seated dinner in the library.

The Lotos Club evening was the highlight of a series of events that took place during Palm Beach Opera’s three-day stay in New York City on Oct. 10-12. In addition to a special board meeting held at The Lotos Club, other events included a Chamber Orchestra of New York recital at Weill Recital Hall—hosted by Carole and Stefano Acunto—and a performance of “Nabucco” at the Metropolitan Opera.

“Our annual New York trip offers a unique opportunity for our supporters to experience opera outside of our community, enjoy thoughtfully organized social events, and deepen their connection to the art form and each other as we approach the opening of our upcoming season,” said Walker. “Our event at The Lotus Club serves as a toast to our major supporters and board members, and a celebration of Palm Beach Opera’s 62nd Season.”

Attendees included Palm Beach Opera General & Artistic Director David Walker, Board Chairman David Genser, Carole and Stefano Acunto, Jeffrey Alderton, Kirstine Belongie, David Brodsky, Julie and Robert Desnick, Edward and Patricia Falkenberg, Henrietta Fridholm, Linda and Peter Hoffman, Robert Iommazzo, Florence Kaufman, Judy and Jerry Kaufman, Jacqueline McCabe, Elaine and Peter McCombs, Cindy Levine and Marc Solomon, Anne Sternlicht, Zibby Tozer, Rhetta Felton and Barry Tucker, and Ann Van Ness among others.

Palm Beach Opera Announces Powerhouse 2024 Season

Palm Beach Opera is excited to announce the planned repertoire for its 2024 Season, which will feature Puccini’s “Tosca,” Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffmann,” and for the first time in 15 years, Bellini’s “Norma,” all beginning in January next year.

Following up on the company’s successful 2023 Season, Palm Beach Opera’s 2024 opera titles are among the most celebrated in the world. To honor the 100-year anniversary of Giacomo Puccini’s death, Palm Beach Opera will open the 2024 Season with the famed composer’s legendary “Tosca” on Jan. 26-28. The season continues with Jacques Offenbach’s fantastical “The Tales of Hoffmann” on March 1-3 and Vincenzo Bellini’s cherished “Norma” on April 5-7. All performances will take place at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.

“After the incredible success of our 2023 Season, which surpassed revenue goals and welcomed many first-time audiences, we are thrilled to follow up with such a powerhouse season,” said PBO’s General and Artistic Director David Walker. “Featuring three of the most illustrious and significant operas in the repertoire – all performed by acclaimed artists from around the world – the 2024 Season continues the tradition of excellence that PBO is known for.”

Palm Beach Opera will open its 2024 Season with Puccini’s stirring “Tosca,” widely considered one of the greatest operas of all time. Featuring high-voltage drama and a sensuous score, all set against the backdrop of real-life locations in Rome, “Tosca” is a classic thriller.

Palm Beach Opera’s second mainstage production presents Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffmann,” a spellbinding portrait of a man who’s haunted by his past. Sophisticated and imaginative, Offenbach’s last and greatest work combines emotional depth and musical brilliance.

Bellini’s fiery “Norma” marks Palm Beach Opera’s final opera of the 2024 Season. Featuring a timeless story, dazzling vocals, and one fearless priestess, the rarely-performed “Norma” is a bel canto masterpiece.

“Tosca” and “Norma” will be sung in Italian and “The Tales of Hoffmann” will be sung in French, all with English supertitles projected above the stage. Current subscribers may renew 2023 Season seats until May 31 and enjoy a 5% discount when renewing by April 28. New subscriptions for the 2024 Season will be made available to the public on June 1. Palm Beach Opera Presents Star-Studded Cast in Charming ‘Così fan tutte’ at Kravis Center

Palm Beach Opera presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s sophisticated romantic comedy “Così fan tutte” on Feb. 24-26 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.

Following Palm Beach Opera’s successful “Madama Butterfly,” which ranks among PBO’s top grossing operas over the last 15 years, the company returns with Mozart’s playful “Così fan tutte.” Nestled on the coast of the French Riviera, PBO’s impressive production takes place at a lavish resort during World War I and features early 20th-century-inspired costumes, an eye-catching set, and a world-class cast.

PBO’s Chief Conductor David Stern will lead the orchestra, and Fenlon Lamb, who directed PBO’s “The Elixir of Love” to critical acclaim, returns to lead the cast. Hailey Clark, hailed by Opera News for her “warm and effortless” soprano, will sing the role of Fiordiligi, and mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey—winner of the Glyndebourne Opera Cup and world-famous Operalia competition—will perform as Dorabella. Rising Houston Grand Opera star Thomas Glass will perform as Guglielmo, and American baritone Dennis Jesse, who performed in Des Moines Metro Opera’s 2018 Emmy-winning broadcast performance of “Billy Budd,” will perform as Don Alfonso.

Former PBO Benenson Young Artist Duke Kim, last seen at PBO as Camille de Roussillon in “The Merry Widow,” will return as Ferrando, and Seattle Opera star Madison Leonard will sing the role of Despina. Hankey, Glass, Jesse, and Leonard will all mark house debuts in this production. Glass, Kim, Leonard, and Hankey are also all former winners of the esteemed Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition.

“Mozart’s brilliant ‘Così fan tutte’ portrays the human condition with both humor and depth, and we are thrilled to share this stunning opera with South Florida,” said General & Artistic Director David Walker. “The wit, charm, and sheer beauty of this masterpiece is sure to leave a lasting impression.”
“Così fan tutte” will be sung in Italian with English supertitles projected above the stage. Single tickets start at $25. Tickets are available for purchase online at pbopera.org or by calling the box office at 561-833-7888.

PBO’s 2023 Season will conclude with a company premiere of Verdi’s “Falstaff” on March 24-26 at the Kravis Center. Learn more at pbopera.org.
