The musical leadership of conductor and pianist Michael Borowitz currently extends across three significant appointments – Artistic Director of Opéra Louisiane, Music Director of the Turner-Fischer Center for Opera at Louisiana State University, and Music Director of Ohio Light Opera. With a vast repertoire that encompasses the classics of opera to the golden age of musical theatre, this season sees him on the podium for productions of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, as well as Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel, Gershwin’s Tip-Toes, and Noël Coward’s Bitter Sweet. His commercial discography includes the operettas of Emmerich Kálmán, Victor Herbert, Jacques Offenbach, Jerome Kern, and Gilbert & Sullivan, as well as a recital album with Lisette Oropesa, Aux filles du désert. Maestro Borowitz has been an Assistant Conductor at the Metropolitan Opera, with further conducting credits at Des Moines Metro Opera, Baltimore Concert Opera, Opera Delaware, and Nevada Opera, where he previously served as Artistic Director for nine seasons.
