‘Sex ed’ from As One
“I can relate because I had sex ed in 4th and 5th grade and that’s when I was starting to realize my identity and that I wasn’t a girl and I felt like I didn’t belong in that classroom. I wanted to ask if I could go to the other class, but I was not able to.
I just put it in the back of my mind.
I didn’t know what it was to identify differently than you were born. I saw it on the internet like she [Hannah Before] saw it on the TV. And I looked up more about what it was and finally understood what it meant, how I feel.
Before that I had thought about it for 5 years.”
