This children’s opera tells of a brother and sister who seek money through singing in the street to buy milk for their ailing mother, only to have the quest thwarted by the evil organ grinder Brundibár. In their struggle to overcome their nemesis they are joined by an array of other children and talking animals.
Performed by children during the Holocaust, Brundibár was used by the Nazi regime as a propaganda tool to delude the outside world into thinking the Jewish detainees were being treated humanely.
Recommended for ages 10 and up.
