What is so impressive about a tenor singing a “high C”?

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

A great high C is the holy grail for all tenors. It is extraordinarily difficult to master singing at full voice in a register that is so high.

Tenor Juan Diego Florez recently championed the high C in performances of The Daughter of the Regiment at the Met in New York City. Even before the production opened, the opera world was a buzz with anticipation of the famous string of multiple high Cs in the big tenor aria.

Check out the review in the New York Times and be sure to listen to the sound clip they provide!
